This is the time of year that college football players declare for the NFL Draft. So this got me thinking: how does one "declare" himself eligible?
And why can't I declare?
So I'm scowering the web trying to figure out how I can register for the draft.
To be eligible, you need to be out of high school for three years. I graduated 10 years ago - I should be eligible.
So... how do I declare? To find out, I called the NFL offices.
Thanks to Kenny with the NFL's employment department, I'm eligible. Since I did not play football in college, and four NFL seasons have elapsed since I graduated high school, I can be drafted by any team in the National Football League.
There's no fee to register and no paperwork to complete.
So - I officially declare myself eligible for the 2009 NFL Draft.
Drafting me wouldn't be unprecedented. The Dallas Cowboys drafted both Bob Hayes and Carl Lewis, and neither of them had college football experience.
On April 25 & 26 - listen for my name.
Now I have to get some publicity.
